To provide an accurate cost of shipping product to our customers we make our shipping fee calculation based on the actual weight of the package or its calculated dimensional (DIM) weight. After comparison, the greater weight is used to calculate the total shipping fee. Therefore, you need to determine:
The actual weight is the product weight including packaging rounded up to the next whole pound.
The DIM weight (also referred to volumetric weight) is a pricing technique that is based on the package size rather than its weight. Simply put, it focused on how much space the package will take up versus only how much it weighs. It is widely used by freight forwarders, truck carriers, and commercial airlines, which use an estimated weight that is calculated from the length, width and height of a package.
To calculate the Dimensional weight of a package
The billable weight of the package is the greater of the two weights and it is used to calculate the shipping rate. Therefore, you need to compare actual and DIM weight, and use whichever number is greater to determine the shipping fee.
For example, if DIM weight is greater than the actual weight of the package, the shipping fee will be based on the DIM weight, not the actual weight.
Example: Shipping a 0.5 kg (actual weight) package. Dimensions: 30 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm
DIM weight is greater than the actual weight of the package, the shipping fee will be based on the DIM weight.
Suppose the item is shipped nationally across two cities within a zone.
